Haak Vineyards & Winery Annual Pruning Day a Shear Success

Santa Fe, Texas – February 9, 2010 – On Saturday, January 30, 2010, guests donned their rubber rain boots and brought their sharpest pruning shears to Haak Vineyards and Winery’s Annual Pruning Day in Santa Fe, Texas. Haak fans were invited out to the vineyard to participate in the winemaking process by pruning Haak’s many rows of grapevines. Guests were also encouraged to take cuttings to grow their own grapevines.

Fritz Westover, viticulture advisor for the Gulf Coast Region, was on hand to instruct guests on proper dormant pruning and propagation techniques—the first step in the long process of winemaking. Once pruning was completed, Haak’s own Chef David served up his famous fried oysters, fried fish, hush puppies and key lime pie. For everyone’s listening pleasure, guests were treated to the wonderful sounds of the Bon Ton Mickey and the Zydeco Hot Steppers.

“We are always so grateful for all of the friends that come out for this event,” said Raymond Haak, winemaker and owner of Haak Vineyards & Winery. “We love to involve others in the process, so that they can learn about what goes into creating our wines. In July, we’ll see the fruits of everyone’s labor when the grapes are harvested.”
